On Tuesday, in the morning we decided to go in shopping :D There is lot of shops with souvenirs in Bugibba. I bought soaps (I love soaps), postcards and necklace with Maltese cross. In the afternoon we went on ride with bus to historical Mdina and Rabat. We crossed a nice little town called Mosta. Mosta is best known for the beautiful church of Saint Mary, usually called simply either the Mosta Dome or Rotunda. It is visible from a large part of the Island. You will ask why? At 37 meters across, it is Europe´s largest unsupported dome.
The frontage of the Rotunda :) You can not miss it. |
View of the dome from inside the church... |

Mdina is one of the Europe´s finest examples of an ancient walled city, It is really fascinating to visit it. Walking in the narrow shady streets... We stand in the front of the gate of the Silent City. You can go through three gates: Mdina Gate, The Greek Gate and through a hole in the wall on the west side. |
Baroque cathedral in Mdina id dedicated to St. Paul. If you want to see it inside, you must pay.. |
These streets I talked about... |
We tried Imqaret in Rabat. It was much better then previous time.. :) |
RABAT - is older than Mdina, famous for its catacoms and Roman remains. It is just 500 meters away from Mdina. |
St, Paul´s catacombs are a labyrinth of tunnels, niches and rock tombs in use up to the 4th century AD. St. Agatha´s catacombs are below the church dedicated to the saint, who fled to Malta from Catania to escape persecution and is believed to have hidden in the underground cementary before returning to Sicily. |
After visiting the catacombs, we afforded a Maltese traditional snack: FTIRA. It was served with salad and chips :) |
At the end of the day, we visit a small village Dingli and Dingli cliffs! I t was really windy here. Why we visited this beauty? Dingli is the highest village in Malta! Dramatic Cliffs tumble down 253 meters through cultivated terraces to the blue Mediterranean below. |
One more great and windy day is over! I enjoyed peaceful and easy day ;)
Kisses,
Masha
